May 1st 1955, Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson won the XXII Mille Miglia in a Mercedes-Benz 300SLR covering the 1,000 mile course from Brescia to Rome and back in an astonishing 10 hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds.
To mark the 60th Anniversary of this victory, described by Doug Nye as the ‘most iconic single day’s drive in motor racing history’, in a joint venture with Sir Stirling & Lady Moss we have commissioned a limited edition production of just 722 bottles of a 2014 Adelaide Hills Chardonnay [the varietal preferred by Sir Stirling]. 722 was the winning car’s race number, designating the start time [7:22am] from Brescia.
A luscious pear and apple bouquet leads to a wonderfully textured palate with rich mouthfeel, tempered by subtle hints of minerality. Judicious use of quality French Oak harmoniously balances all the elements, resulting in a complex wine of intensity and depth.
