NV ALMOND LIQUEUR
Penny's Hill Almond Liqueur is a local variant of the time-honoured Italian icon, Amaretto. Curiously, in Italy, Amaretto is made not from almonds but with apricot kernels.
Amaretto is the perfect romantic drink and is said to have been created in Saronno in 1525 as a tribute to artist Bernardino Luini by his model. To this day, the original brand, Amaretto Di Saronno remains the standard against which others are measured.
The Penny's Hill version is made using locally produced almonds, first quality examples of the Somerton variety, from one of the few remaining Willunga orchards which has been farmed by the Parkinson family since 1952.
The process involves distilling ground almonds in alcohol with the addition of water & syrup. The result of this simple value-adding is that the humble Willunga almond, besides being a chewy provider of nutrients, may also be enjoyed straight, on the rocks, in mixed drinks or in coffee.
Best served chilled in a liquer glass.
